Freelance Marketing Account Director
Louise Snell is a 37 year old Chartered Marketer and has been working in the industry for over 15 years working in advertising agencies and marketing departments as Marketing Account Director.
When I had my first child 6 years ago I started working part time for the advertising agency I was working for but invariably because of the nature of my job I was getting home late and not seeing my little boy at all on the days I was working. I was also cramming in 5 days work into 3 days and working long hours.
When I got pregnant with my second child I decided to set up Fingerprint Marketing and work from my home office so that I could offer clients the same sort of service but at a cheaper rate for them and allow me to work around my other commitments.
To be honest, I have never looked back. I love the flexibility I have, it gives me a wonderful sense of freedom which I never had before and I can control the hours I work and, within reason, when I choose to work them. It has allowed me to enjoy my children yet still keep an income coming in and keep my sanity! If I have a busy day ahead, I can work late at night or early in the morning before the children are up so that frees me up during the day a bit more.
As my job involves writing press releases, ads and other marketing material I can easily do it from home and it costs the client less than using larger agencies as I have smaller overheads. I also get paid by the hour so I don't end up doing lots of unpaid overtime which I was unfortunately doing before. Other skills and service I provide for clients include market research, producing newsletters and articles, event management including exhibitions, conferences and workshops.
I have worked for many years in two full service agencies on the south coast and as a Marketing Project Manager within a marketing Department for Dorset Training and Enterprise Council (now Learning and Skills Council). Sectors that I have the most experience in are financial, building/housing market, IT market. I now work much smarter because my time at work is completely work time, I don't have any distractions like chatting to colleagues or emailing colleagues and I don't get involved in office gossip etc so my time is spent wisely. I do miss having a laugh with work friends but my flexibility allows me to meet my friends for lunch etc when my work is done so I can spend quality time with them and I still get interaction with the people I am working with through meetings and phone/email etc.
My clients are very supportive of me working from home and see the benefits to themselves as well and are happy to work meetings around me getting childcare etc. I signed up with Remote Employment just a few couple of weeks ago as I saw their website and thought what a fantastic concept it was. I have not seen a company like this before and thought it was a great idea to have a portal where people can post their CVs if they are looking for remote/freelance work - luckily at the moment I have enough work to keep me as busy as I want to be but in the future I would rather have the website looking for work for me with my CV for people to see rather than having to spend my time trying to get new projects.
Current and past clients include Sunseeker Powerboats, Barclays International, Oracle, Mercedes, Filofax, IBM, Unisys, Insight People Development, Winchester Cathedral, ODPM Fire Service College, Wessex Homes etc, Leggett & Co Mortgage, Sands Home Search, Wyatt Homes, Arnold Snell Building Limited.
I have an office at home and with fax/mobile phone and laptop I am lucky enough to be able to work from my home/my garden and in the summer even on the beach! My home phone number is 01202 737771 and mobile 07966418354.
